Recensie Jack Garratt

vrijdag 17 juli 2015Salacgriva - Latvia

Jack

Few minutes before the solo performer appeared the crowd wasn‘t exactly enormous, but the true fans were there. Discussing their expectations and sharing their desirable set list. But the view after Jack‘s first composition Synesthesia was out of this world - people standing on the benches, squeezing in the front rows and screaming song lyrics from top of their lungs.

Blending fragments of different genres together Jack was obviously taken over by each and every sound shiver he released. Moving a bit chaotically, changing the facial expressions every second and energetically bending to the ground - Jack was all-in from the first greeting salute to the cheerful goodbyes. After every composition, and sometimes even in the middle, Jack wasn‘t ashamed to loudly declare how impressed he is by the amount of the fans arrived. “This is very strange... Half of the time I don‘t even know who I am myself. How do you know me?“ Jack asked. The 23 year old artist wasn‘t a performer to look up to, he was a buddy, one from the crowd with no noticeable signs of starstruck.

In his electronic multi-layered soundscape Jack took away the audience with hints of every musical genre imaginable. Rock, pop, indie, jazz, R&B, techno - you name it, he‘s done it all. Almost hypnotic the performer took his six-compositions-long setlist to the next level, adding new sounds and implementing never before heard accents. Third composition Chemical almost became an anthem among the already mind-blown audience. Jack‘s ability to demonstrate his vocal strength and still remain humble was unexpected from such a young artist. Jack isn‘t an artist, who just stands there and sings. He holds nothing back and gives all to the fans. After seeing the hipsterish solo artist perform you will genuinely feel like you got to know his very wakeless and, yes, a little crazy, personality.
